Men aren't the only ones who appreciate fine watches. Our better halves can be just as knowledgable yet, it is very difficult to find a woman's watch that isn't overly decorated with diamonds and other flashy elements. Many women want an elegant watch, not a disco ball on their wrist. Being the watch nerd that I am, my wife started to really appreciate mechanical watches. So while on our honeymoon, we scoured the boutiques throughout Paris trying to find an elegant mechanical watch that wasn't covered in diamonds. It proved to be a difficult task. In this piece I will cover three examples of ladies watches that offer great value, as well as, great horological credit.
The watch we ended up purchasing was the Tissot Lady Heart Automatic. This is a very simple and effective example of a great mechanical ladies watch. And affordable too! The Lady Heart Automatic has an aperture at 12 o'clock to showcase the balance wheel beating inside the movement. It also features an exhibition case back where you can see the gold Tissot branded rotor. For only $750 you get a workhorse ETA 2824 movement inside a 35mm wide/9.35mm thick case with a leather strap and triple-folding clasp. Very good value from Tissot.
Pictured here is the Jaeger LeCoultre Rondevous. Until January of this year, this watch was only available with a diamond case but JLC released this version at SIHH and is now at the top of my wife's list. The case is 34mm wide and 12.4mm thick. On the dial, it shows a day/night indication at 6 o'clock in addition to the time. It also has an exhibition case back so you can see the stunning in-house movement. (JLC didn't have any press images of the non-diamond case back, but it looks the same.) Expect the non-diamond, steel version to come in between $9-10k.
Finally I present the Zenith Ultra Thin Heritage Lady Moonphase. This is another very elegant & stylish watch. The case is 33mm wide/8.65mm thick and is powered by the in-house Zenith Elite caliber. It displays the seconds at 9 o'clock and a moonphase indication at 6 o'clock. The dial is very attractive with a clous de Paris pattern in the center, a sunray decoration on the moon phase and a smooth lacquer around the outer ring.
